SA Rugby Legends play a game of rugby at French school

MORNINGSIDE – South African Rugby Legends played for Paris at the Lycée Jules Verne French School in Sandton and showed their support to France in the aftermath of the Paris attacks.

“Since the values of rugby, such as courage, solidarity, co-operation and respect are also the ones of France, the team was keen to show their support by participating in a friendly game against Stade Joburg’s rugby team,” explained Jeanne Stanley, human resources and communication officer of the school.

She said the South African Rugby Legends team is made up of retired Springbok players led by Stefan Terblanche while Stade Joburg is an amateur rugby team in Johannesburg. The game took place in the presence of the French ambassador, the French Consul and the principal of the school.

Stanley said following the game, a braai was held for all spectators and players to celebrate the value of conviviality shared among the rugby world, France and South Africa.

“The school warmly thanks the two rugby teams for this superb game with spectacular tries from both sides,” said Stanley.

Three teachers of the school, Jean-Philippe Robbe-Saule, François Blériot and Pierre Rautenbach participated in the game which was also supported by all the school pupils.

“They all had a wonderful experience, and afterwards collected many autographs, photographs and even socks from all the players,” added Stanley.
