One glance at Grade 1 winner Celtic Sea’s form and you quickly realise she is arguably the best filly in Gauteng.
This four-year-old simply does not know how to throw in the towel.
She has bagged four triumphs and three places from last seven starts. She has also beaten top-class thoroughbreds like Oh Susanna and Snowdance – both of whom are Equus champions.
Celtic Sea had a stellar Western Cape feature-rich season, following up her penultimate Grade 2 win with an unlucky second in the Grade 1 Majorca Stakes over 1600m. Although this filly won over that distance, her form clearly proves she is most lethal over 1400m.
Sean Tarry’s charge is weighted to school this lot and can be bankered in everything.

Race 6 No 1 Al Mutawakel
Since finishing third behind stable companion Zillzaal in the Grade 1 Summer Cup, Al Mutawakel has been threatening to register a fourth career success.
Considering he was forced to jump from the worst draw of all, there was a lot to like about the manner in which he performed when beaten into third last time out. Because this son of Silvano runs off a merit rating of 116 while the average of this event is 99, he should win.
Plus, in this small seven-course field, the No 6 draw shouldn’t really prove too much of a disadvantage.

Race 5 No 1 Heaven’s Embrace
Although the Brett Crawford-trained Heaven’s Embrace last won a race in late 2018, she rarely finishes far from the action.
In fact, she’s filled the minor money placings four times in last eight outings. What increases her chances of winning is the fact this will mark her third run after a lengthy layoff. With that said, this filly will be at peak fitness and ready to resume winning ways.
She gets the services of in-form Anton Marcus and is also perfectly drawn at No 1.

Race 4 No 1 Pippielangkous
Following four consecutive seconds, people were starting to believe Pippielangkous had forgotten how to win.
But she proved all those sceptics wrong and made favourite backers a little richer when cruising to a comfortable 1.25-length win over the minimum trip recently. Judged on that performance, the fact she returns to the same distance and is the most consistent runner in this event, conditioner Paul Reeves’ charge should register back-to-back wins.
