Tasha and Sidra Smith to host acting masterclass in SA

Tasha has starred in productions such as 'Empire', 'Why Did I Get Married' and 'Couples Retreat' while Sidra has worked as a producer on projects such as 'A Luv Tale' and 'Daredevil'.

American actress, director, and producer, Tasha Smith together with her twin sister, director and producer Sidra Smith, have partnered with the Actor Spaces team for a one-day masterclass titled ‘Women Take Lead’ which will take place this coming Friday in Johannesburg.

Made up of actors Pallance Dladla, Ayanda Sithebe and Sdumo Mtshali, Actor Spaces is a trio that is well-known for hosting and conducting some of the best masterclasses and master talks for actors – established and upcoming – in South Africa.

Tasha is the to-go-to acting coach for stars like Mary J Blidge and also regularly hosts TSAW (Tasha Smith Actors Workshop) in different countries. As a result, her partnership with Actor Spaces is a match made in acting heaven.

The team behind Actor Spaces chalks this up to their continued engagement and interaction with professionals and stakeholders in the film and television industry.

Masterclass Talk: ‘Women Take Lead’ is scheduled to start at 9am in the morning at the Constitution Hill on Friday, December 20, 2019, and will be MC’d by Mampho Brescia and Lala Tuku.

Brescia is best known for her role as Iris on the Mzansi Magic telenovela Isibaya and she is the first-ever Brand Japan Ambassador for South Africa. Tuku formerly worked at the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) and is currently Africa Rising International Film Festival’s co-chair.

According to organisers, the event is a bold, unapologetic and empowering statement/conversation around how black women in the film and television industry are rising to defeat the odds, from unequal pay to sexual violence and erasure.

“Women continue to take the lead in changing the narrative for the future of women in the film and television, both locally and abroad. It will also lend a voice to the subject of ‘closing the global gap’ between South African actors and the world,” read part of the statement.
