Mercedes-AMG A35 quietly enters South Africa
Mercedes-AMG has discreetly loaded the all-new A35 onto its official online configurator, effectively revealing the price tag of its rival to the Volkswagen Golf R, Audi S3 Sportback, Honda Civic Type R and the incoming BMW M135i xDrive.
Serving as the entry-level AMG fettled A-Class until the A45 touches down, the A35 employs a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine that produces 225kW/400Nm, which is channelled to all four wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Equipped with Launch Control, the A35 will sprint from 0-100 km/h in a claimed 4.7 seconds and reach a limited top speed of 250 km/h.
Priced as standard at R756 946, standard features includes the Thermatic climate control system, sport seats or the AMG Performance chairs at no extra cost, the basic MBUX infotainment system, Distronic Plus, Adaptive High Beam Assist, the AMG suspension, black Artico/ Dinamica upholstery and 18-inch alloy wheels.
From the options list however, buyers can specify a selection of 19-inch alloys, the upgraded 10.25-inch MBUX infotainment system (R10 000) and the digital instrument cluster (R6 500), a panoramic sliding roof (R15 200), automatic climate control (R9 000), heated and cooled front seats (R12 000), a Burmester surround sound system (R10 200), Parking Pilot (R10 200), Heads-Up Display (R15 000), Active Distance Assist Distronic (R16 200), the AMG Ride Control suspension (R22 400) and a Dinamica trimmed AMG Performance steering wheel (R14 700).
In addition, the selection of various packages includes the Edition 1 styling pack (R112 000), the Driving Assistance Package (R30 000), AMG Aerodynamics Package (R26 350), Parking Package with surround view camera system (R21 000), the AMG Night Package (R13 100) and three seat options; the AMG Performance (R39 000), AMG Performance Advanced (R57 000) and AMG Performance high-end (R77 000).
