Orlando Pirates are said to have added Highlands Park’s duo of Sphiwe Msimango and Ryan Rae to the list of defenders they are closely monitoring, Phakaaathi has heard.

The Buccaneers’ defence has seemed to be the team’s Achilles heel in the past few seasons and they were heavily criticised earlier this season as the weak link in the team.

But when expected to reinforce the defence, the team surprised many when they released Justice Chabalala to Bloemfontein Celtic on loan last week.

“I don’t think he fits the profile of the player that the new coach (Jozef Zinnbauer) said he needs as he reorganises the team. If you check, they haven’t been as leaky since he took over. I believe Msimango and Rae could be the right fit and they are being monitored,” said a source.
