Florida Toastmasters Club challenged their members and and their guests to throw caution to the wind and just do it on Tuesday 4 February.
“Don’t wait or hesitate about something that you’ve been thinking about doing for a while, just do it,” explained Dawn Hemming, Florida Toastmasters’ public relations officer. Toastmaster Barry Nelson responded to the challenge by sharing stories of famous people like Helen Keller, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Shirley Temple throughout the evening. His personal motto in life is that no matter your age, you’re never too old or too young for success in challenging yourself.
Robert de Kramer presented the educational session on the Leader as coach and highlighted the benefits of coaching, which usually moves people from awareness to responsibility and the latter to action, he said, which leads to results.
Distinguished Toastmaster Tim Knights and Toastmasters Cynthia Seemane, Mark van Vuuren and Michael Glencross kept their audiences riveted to the edge of their chairs with interesting and thought-provoking speeches. Various topics were brought to the table with speeches titled, Where am I now, Justice for those who cannot speak for themselves, Potential vs. achievement and It ain’t over til it’s over’
Mark won the trophy for the Best Prepared Speech on Tuesday. Robert de Kramer won the trophy for the Best Impromptu Speech, a session during which speakers respond to a question or statement by speaking for a minute or two.
Finally Dick Hallett was honoured with the Distinguished Toastmaster pin, which is the highest recognition a member may receive. He also was awarded the trophy for Best Evaluator of the night because of his Review, Reward and Respond (RRR) method.
At Florida Toastmasters there’s so much to look forward to and to experience.
“You are invited to visit the Florida Toastmasters Club every first and third Tuesday of the month from 7.15pm at the Huguenot Restaurant in Flora Centre, Florida,” Hemming invites residents.
“All are welcome.”
