Police above the law?

Disabled police officer permitted to drive standard police vehicle?

The general public was rather upset after spotting a vehicle of the South African Police Service (SAPS) parked in a zone for the handicapped at Village@Horizon.

Whether the officers did so on purpose remains an allegation but witnesses who spotted these officers of the law were very clear: “They walked out with groceries”.

“I first thought they were attending some official business as there was another police vehicle parked two parking spaces away. To my dismay, the officers came out of a store with shopping bags in hand and had a casual chat at the vehicle,” a witness explains.

“We do not expect this from the police. It just shows what types of characters are employed as police officers. How can we trust them?” the witness elaborates.

The witness argues that if the police did respond to a call or attend a scene there will be record of it.

“When I arrived there they gave people who showed their dismay some dirty looks.”

The record has approached Roodepoort Police spokesperson Warrant Officer N Khumalo who is yet to confirm whether the said officers indeed attended a scene.

Village@Horizon confirms that no one is allowed to park there except those with disabilities and/ or who display the required disability sticker.

  1. I think that it is disgusting but its a usual thing for them they think they above the law skipping red robots for no reason, transporting people in squad cars, talking on cell phones and even driving without seat belts. What I have also witnessed is switching on of the lights to by pass traffic and witnessing a almost high jacking on Main Reef Rd near Jumbo the new hot spot and do absolutely nothing.

  2. Yes parking in disable parking is wrong but when it comes to timing to react to a crime speedely police members does what it takes to deal with the situation. people who complain against the police for small stuff like cell phone should not phone the police because they are driving. when they use their lights it is for a puspose, the complaint can be cancelled on the way to the compalaint so then they dont speed anymore. if you dont like the police phone a friend….
