Maragon Ruimsig swimmers are exhilarated at having former South African swimmer Penny Heyns to mentor them.
The retired Heyns saw to it that the South African flag be hoisted high during the Atlanta Olympics in 1996.
Her name was printed boldly in history books when she won the 100m and 200m breaststroke events, becoming the first woman to do so in the history of the Olympics.
She challenged many world records and set new ones as her swimming career flourished over the years.
Heyns remained a force to be reckoned until her retirement from active swimming.
She now presents swimming clinics at Maragon Private Schools in Ruimsig.
She not only coaches the children to improve on their swimming skills but also teaches them positive ways to approach life in general. She challenges the children to better themselves constantly.
“I consider working with the Maragon swimmers a privilege and a pleasure. All the swimmers participating in the various clinics during the year and especially throughout October, showed great enthusiasm in the water and intelligent interaction during the theory sessions. They were well behaved and quite entertaining to say the least,” says Heyns.
