Eskom under fire for a different reason

RUIMSIG – Residents urge Eskom to come and fix a big hole left behind by the electricity supplier.

Eskom has been in the news numerous times the last month but residents who live inside Sundowner Crest are fed up with the electricity supplier for a slightly different reason than load shedding.

One of the residents in the complex Fredrick Wilke said that most residents heard a loud bang at the start of October and they lost power completely. “Eskom sent some of their workers to come and repair a main power cable outside the complex that ‘blew’ up and they dug a large hole on the left-hand side of the driveway in order to reach the cable.

“They marked the hole with their Eskom tape but that is the way they have left the hole since October.”

He added that the problem now is that bricks are disappearing and the hole is increasing in size.

“It’s starting to turn into a dangerous situation as someone is going to fall or drive into the hole.”

Managing agent of Sundowner Crest Julie Randall explains that the issue has been logged numerous times to Eskom and nothing gets done to rectify it. “The first time I logged a complaint was on 14 October and the last one was on 5 December. They keep on making promises but nothing ever happens.”

No answer has been received about the issue yet, but Sipho Neke from Eskom’s Media Desk explained that they will take a look at the query and revert back as soon as possible with answers.
