Photos: Squatters strip torched house

Squatters descend like locust on torched house.

The property on Pannevis Street that was torched by squatters on Monday two weeks ago, has been reduced to something resembling a scene out of a war movie.

The buildings have been completely stripped by squatters from Princess Informal Settlement. Even the cables were stolen and the lawn has been dug up and the property is now only a shadow of the beautiful home it once was.

The house was torched after a body was found near the squatter camp and the squatters blamed the residents of the house for the murder. Due to the fact that the property in question was the closest to the body, looters made the assumption that the family was to blame.

Once the looters went on the rampage it took police and the neighbourhood watch until the early morning hours to bring the situation under control.

Unfortunately, regardless of police patrolling, the squatters played a game of cat and mouse with the police, returning to the property every time they were out of sight.
