Ireland and Maule are the Eagle Trophy champions
RUIMSIG – The gruelling playoff sees victory for Maule and Ireland at the Ruimsig Country Club Eagle Trophy.

Golfers Les Ireland and Clyde Maule are the champions of the annual Eagle Trophy Tournament played at Ruimsig Country Club, following a gruelling playoff.
The two-day tournament commenced on 24 until 25 October with a field of 98 keen players competing in a better ball medal format for the title of the 2015 Eagle Trophy champions.
Four better ball pairings tied on a net score of 129, played a gruelling sudden death playoff. After a four-hole play-off, Les Ireland and Clyde Maule were the eventual champions.
Maule highlighted that people do not realise how stressful a playoff was and how much pressure was put on the players to perform.
Golf director at Ruimsig Country Club Charles Jerrard explained that the four pairings involved in the play-off played exceptional golf over the two days especially considering that the greens were playing fast and firm.
Colin Smith and Dereck Dyason were runners-up of the Eagle Trophy, followed by André Strydom and Earl Saunders in third place.
Notably, Gavin Martin and Robin Shuttleworth with a 63 net on day one were awarded the best players on 24 October, and Mike van Heerden and Nardu Malherbe went on to be best players – also having produced 63 net on 25 October.
Ireland emphasised that the Eagle Trophy was always a well-supported event. “I enjoy playing in the tournament as it is a good format which gives everyone the opportunity to succeed and play well.” Ireland playing off a 18 handicap, is testament to the fact that everyone has a chance to win and play well.
