National Talk Like A Pirate Day
Yo, ho, ho and a bottle of rum! Celebrate #NationalTalkLikeAPirateDay

Yar harrr! Ahoy there, mateys! It be Talk Like A Pirate Day, and that means it’s time for pillaging and imbibing of rum!
National Talk Like A Pirate Day is celebrated annually on 19 September and is dedicated to keeping the piratical language – and more importantly – the tradition, alive.
In recent years, pirates have become all the rage, and from that a completely insane but practical idea was born.
A group of men were playing raquetball on 6 June 1995 and were shouting encouragement to each other throughout the game. On this particular day, without knowing why, they started shouting piratical slang at each other, and the practice took on a life of its own.
By the end of the game, they had realised the necessity of establishing a holiday encouraging the use of such fine vocabulary. They needed a date and decided on the birthday of the ex-wife of one of the group. They celebrated the holiday for seven years in relative obscurity. Then, they happened to find the email address of a syndicated columnist and author named Dave Barry. They contacted him, and he started to promote the holiday – and the rest is history. It became one amazing year after another of people celebrating this auspicious holiday.
To celebrate is as easy as spending a day in the tropics. You just need to gather your friends, use words like “Yar!”, “Ahoy”, “Matey”, have some fruity drinks with umbrellas in them and be your piratey best.
There are songs to be sung, wenches to be clenched, and a backyard barbeque with grilled pineapple and an inappropriate amount of pure sugar-cane rum to be held.
