JOY at Summit Village

JOY Dogs bring joy to retirement village

The JOY Dogs may not bark or bite, but they do know how to entertain – and entertain they did on their recent visit to the Summit Retirement Village in Ontdekkers Park.

The JOY Dogs wowed the audience with their stunning looks and tricks while the audience learnt a lot about the Old English Sheepdog breed. The name ‘JOY Dogs’ is derived from the first letters of the dogs’ names – Jazmine, Oscar and Yola. They all work for a well-known paint company, Oscar being the dog featured in the current TV advertisement.

Their owner, Sue Green, is also comfortable working with people, having started working with therapy dogs in hospitals with a social worker more than 10 years ago. She and her assistant currently visit old age homes and institutions with their dog show, and also present responsible pet ownership programmes at schools.

Soft toy dogs and key rings made by Sue were on sale, as was a children’s book entitled Life with Oscar, which tells the story of the dogs. Sue also spins yarn from the dog hair she collects while grooming the dogs on her own spinning wheel, and knits and crochets garments with the resultant yarn.
