Golf day with a difference
RANDPARK RIDGE – Methodist Homes organised their first fundraiser – a Golf Day to support two other organisations.

Methodist Homes, the South African Disabled Golf Association (Sadga) and Stand with Stan teamed up for a golf day with a difference.
Although the event required four-ball teams, businesses were asked to submit three players, who were paired up with members of Methodist Homes and Sadga to complete the team. This led to a fun, social day where a good game of golf was had at Randpark Golf Club, by the 14 participating teams on 4 October. “Golf is not child’s play but it is enjoyable,” said clinical training manager of Methodist Homes, Priscilla Nhlape.
Methodist Homes came up with the idea to have a golf day to raise funds for their initiative that supports the elderly who outlive their pensions and need financial support. Stakeholder and bequest officer for Methodist Homes, Jozelle Steenkamp, said she approached the other two organisations to benefit from the golf day because she feels non-profit organisations need to collaborate to further in their specific endeavours.
“The biggest aim of the golf day was to create awareness that we might be old but we are still active, or that we might be disabled but we are not mentally disabled,” said Steenkamp.
Sagda raised funds for their First Swing Programme, which teaches golf to severely disabled children and uses it as a tool for social development, while Stand with Stan raised funds for prosthetic legs for disabled individuals.
After the 18 holes, golfers were treated to a gala dinner where golfing legend, Dale Hayes, was the master of ceremonies. Prizes were given to the first four teams, the longest drive and closest to the pin. Raffles and an auction were also held during the dinner, which saw R15 400 raised for the three organisations. Final calculations for the total amount raised are still in progress.
