Police are investigating a cash-in-transit heist which occurred outside the Food Lovers Market at the Hillfox Value Centre today (29 October).
While initial, unconfirmed reports from Twitter said that shots were fired, Johannesburg West police cluster spokesperson, Captain Mpho Kgasoane confirmed that no shots were fired and no one injured during the incident at 9am.
She explained that three suspects, one of whom was carrying a firearm, accosted the cash-in -transit van that was en route to the Food Lovers Market store.
“The suspects in this matter made off with an undisclosed amount of money and disarmed the security guard inside the van of his firearm, which they made off with,” she said.
Kgasoane added that the three suspects got away in a white Mercedes-Benz with false number plates. A case of cash-in-transit heist was opened and investigations were underway.
