Vumatel hosts public meeting in Weltevreden Park

WELTEVREDEN PARK – Residents had their turn to ask their Vumatel questions.

Vumatel invited residents of Weltevreden Park and surrounds to attend their public meeting on 22 November which was hosted at Weltevreden Park Pre-Primary School.

Many residents have been complaining of late about issues arising from the Vumatel fibre layout process. Occasionally water pipes have been hit and power lines cut, often due to outdated way leaves.

Vumatel fibrehood manager, Tsolo Lerotholi opened the meeting by explaining who and what Vumatel was. “We understand that this may be a new experience, as such, we at Vumatel treat you [the residents] as people and not just numbers,” added Lerotholi.

He said the company worked together with City Power and Johannesburg Water to make sure that any damaged infrastructure was fixed swiftly.

Most concerns brought up by the community members present were turn-around times for fixing problems, trenching time period, and installation for individual homes.

One resident asked what the coloured lines represented that are sprayed onto the road where trenching is being done. It was explained that red was where power lines were, blue lines indicated water pipes and white lines marked where gas lines or other infrastructure may be.

Lerotholi confirmed that when individual homes were connected, homeowners would be contacted by Vumatel to ascertain what time was convenient and who from the company would be coming to the home.

Resident association chairpersons confirmed that information would be relayed to the community.

Information can also be found on the Vumatel website or on their social media pages such as Twitter (@vuma_welties) and Facebook.
