Miss Signature finalist, Nande Mbamaba, recently held a workshop to teach women from People Opposed to Women Abuse (Powa) in Florida the skill-set they need to empower themselves with employment.
As part of the beauty pageant, she had to host a charity event that would make a meaningful impact on the lives of young women. Powa is a organisation that provides shelter and services to its clients (and their children where relevant) who have been victims of gender-based violence.
Nande’s workshop was based on the empowering of women by teaching them the necessary skills to get ahead in life. She gave a motivational talk, taught the women how to write a curriculum vitae (CV) and showed them some interview skills. The women were also treated to make-up tutorials to assist them to look presentable in a professional environment. “I decided on these topics for my workshop in order to help the women gain knowledge and skills to take ownership of their lives. As soon as they have done this, they can make things happen for themselves by starting with securing employment,” Nande said.
This cause is one that is very close to her heart and she concluded by saying, “It is my dream to change the lives of people.
If I win the pageant I will be able to do more charitable events and leave an impact on people.”
