Hirsch’s brings Christmas cheer to children
WELTEVREDEN PARK – The children of Ikholwa Children's Home are given presents and Happy Meals for Christmas.

A team from Hirsch’s Strubens Valley, armed with McDonalds Happy Meals and a bag full of toys, recently visited a local children’s home to spread some Christmas cheer.
Ikholwa Children’s Home is a registered home and non-profit organisation that gives hope and an improved life to abandoned and orphaned children who have been affected by the Aids pandemic in South Africa. The home, situated in Weltevreden Park, does not receive government funding and runs purely on donations and kindness from the local community. All the staff are volunteers.
At the moment, it houses 19 children ranging from babies to teenagers.

A collection was held by the staff from Hirsch’s Strubens Valley who all donated towards this cause. Each child was given a meal and a personal age-appropriate gift. Hirsch’s public relations officer, Raquel Holdsworth said, “A simple McDonalds meal is a pure luxury to these children, it is so humbling to see the happy smiles on their faces.”
Elsa de Swardt, the social worker on duty said, “The children and I are very grateful to be treated today and a huge thank you to the team from Hirsch’s for spoiling the children.”

While this gesture was to spoil the children, the home is in desperate need of many items such as nappies, toiletries, medical care and Aids medication, groceries, clothing and much more. Should you wish to donate or assist the home, their details can be found on their website www.ikholwa.com
