Maragon welcomes 156 Grade 1s
RUIMSIG – Maragon Ruimsig Primary school principal, Gayl Kennedy, speaks about the Grade 1s school year ahead.

Ruimsig Primary School opened its doors to 156 new Grade 1s on their first official day of school.
Principal Gayl Kennedy said this year is one of the biggest turnouts in a long time.
She explained that the Grade 1s technically started school on 10 January as Maragon has a system where only the Grade 1s start a day early to adjust to their new school.

“It is a winning recipe as the school is quiet when they come in and when school officially starts on 11 January, they don’t come in crying. Grade 1 is a big year as they learn to read and write. They might leave disappointed today because they have not learned to read and write yet,” Kennedy joked.

One of the other highlights for the Grade 1s, according to Kennedy, is their trip to the school tuck shop, Oasis, which they are only allowed to visit on Fridays.
“They integrate quickly. They are already running races today to be part of the athletics tomorrow.”

This year, the school will emphasise relationships and solutions, as the curriculum is teamwork orientated.
