The power outage affecting areas in Robertville and Stormill will be fully restored by about noon today (20 January).
The outage occurred at about 8.15pm on 19 January, after a fire broke out at the Robertville Substation. The damage could only be assessed after the City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) extinguished the fire.

According to the councillor for ward 70, Caleb Finn, the fire caused serious damage to some of the electrical components, which needed to be repaired by City Power technicians. The estimated time to completion of the job was 24 hours.
Finn added that although most of the electricity has been restored, Stormill residents were still without power. “This is due to the main supply cable from Robertville to Stormill being stolen,” he said.
Yumna Sheik, the spokesperson for City Power, confirmed the fire at the substation and the resulting power outage. “One of the transformer phases burnt at Robertville substation last night as a result of stolen feeder cables at Spokeshave. This caused a power outage that affected the Stormill and Robertville areas. The burnt phase has been removed and replaced, and so far restoration of electricity supply is at 90 per cent. City Power technicians are still on site, busy with the remaining 10 per cent of the areas affected and it is estimated that full restoration will be at about midday today,” said Sheik.
