The new school term has just begun but Roodepoort Police’s Social Crime Prevention Unit is already hard at work in the community. The unit’s Constable Shumikazi Mbuli recently visited Roodepoort Primary School for a talk with the learners. She touched on serious issues such as substance abuse, gambling, bullying and theft.
“It is important to address such issues because once they arise in a school, they become a big problem and we want to make the learners aware that engaging in such activities is against the law,” she said.
The awareness campaign is one of the numerous community programmes the Social Crime Prevention Unit is involved in.
“The learners were very responsive to the talk and were enthusiastic about the topics that I touched on as they affect them. I will be visiting other schools in the area as well,” she said.
