Florida’s Cricket team in action

Cricket season still at full steam

Florida Cricket Club’s second team faced off against the Gunn and Moore Old Edwardians Cricket Club in a Sunday Three League match recently.

Gunn and Moore won the toss and decided to bat first, amassing a total of 159 runs all out. Opening batsman Ash was the anchor of the innings as he scored 43 runs off 72 balls, hitting three boundaries and a six. He was mainly assisted by middle-order batsman Tahir who scored 37 runs off 46 balls, including five boundaries.

Florida’s bowler Akhil Araf was a menace with the ball as he claimed five wickets while conceding only 29 runs in 8.4 overs. Thomas Mann had the next best bowling figures from Florida, taking two wickets and conceding a mere 22 runs in 10 overs.

Florida’s batsmen then had the challenge of chasing down Gunn and Moore’s score of 159 runs with Zaid Essop and Matthew Vickers opening the batting. With just 35 runs on the board, Florida lost Essop on 12 runs and the team failed to recover their start. Vickers tried to stay around but wickets kept falling around him and he was unable to form a partnership. He fell on 24 runs while the rest of the team failed to reach double figures. Florida were bowled out for 91 runs.

Superb bowling figures from Akhil Araf put his points at the top of the MVP chart for this match.

The loss puts Florida in 6th position on the log, just three points behind Lenasia Cricket Club.
