It was the battle of both school athletes and school spirit when some of the top schools in the province recently competed against each other at the UJ Sports Stadium.
Top-performing athletes from Pretoria’s Afrikaanse Hoër Meisieskool, Afrikaanse Hoër Seunskool, Hoërskool Menlopark and Hoërskool Waterkloof, as well as from HTS Middelburg in Mpumalanga, Hoërskool Noordheuwel in Krugersdorp, Hoërskool Florida in Roodepoort, Hoërskool Kemptonpark in Kempton Park and Hoërskool Linden in Johannesburg were all going for glory at this year’s Prestige Athletics Meet.
From the javelin, shot-put and high jump to the sprints and long distance running, the Prestige had it all and showcased the hard work, dedication and sweat the athletes had put into qualifying for such an event.
Noordheuwel’s Dané Roets was once again a top performer and was named Best Female Athlete in the field events, with Juan Oosthuizen from Kempton Park being named Best Male Athlete in the field. Best Junior Track girl and Best Junior Track boy went to Johne Aucamp from the Meisieskool and Jose van Vuuren from Hoërskool Waterkloof respectively.
Best Senior Field Athlete girl and boy went to Chante Ferreira and Lohan Potgieter from Hoërskool Menlopark, while Best Senior Track girl and boy went to Liane van Jaarsveld from Hoërskool Kemptonpark and Gerdus du Plessis from the Seunskool respectively. Noordheuwel’s Dané Roets also picked up the most prestigious award of the night as she was named Victrix Ludorum, while Kempton Park’s Juan Oosthuizen was named Victor Ludorum.
