Sun spoke on the importance of visible policing as a way of curbing opportunistic crime, however, he wanted residents to understand that police do not have unlimited manpower so their operations are strategic.

He asked residents to come on board and give police tip-offs on crime such as the selling of drugs in the community.

Representatives of City Parks and the Joburg Roads Agency were also present and gave separate presentations regarding grass cutting and verges, and speed bumps and booms, respectively.

Sun mentioned in the meeting that the council was looking to revive the municipal courts by the end of March.

This will allow the council to have better management over bylaw infringements.

There will be five courts in total, two of which will be in the Randburg and Roodepoort area.

He ensured residents that he and the departments he represented were here to work for the residents.

“I work for you, you are my bosses, so my job is to please you in the way that I can and that way for me is to deliver services to you with pride and by the end of my five-year term I can come to you and ask is Joburg is a safer place and you say yes, then I have done my job,” said Sun.
