Netball, cricket, action

HILLFOX – Sports teams collide in do or die set of fixtures.

The Hillfox Action Sports Arena was a hive of activity as action netball and cricket players shifted into fifth gear for the final stages of their respective leagues.

Hundreds of players turned up in person and attitude on 19 April, as it is becoming do or die in 21 netball and 11 cricket leagues, with finals beginning in late may.

Chanel van Wyngaardt keeps the ball alive for MPPM.

Netball players ran, passed and scored goals at a blistering pace, as every run counted in close cricket encounters on a neighbouring court.

“We have seven senior women’s netball, six senior mixed netball and eight junior netball leagues,” explained Graeme Hare, arena owner.

Steven van Eeden bats to put runs on the board for Stealers.

He said 10 men’s cricket leagues, one mixed cricket league and a Sunday soccer league were also playing out.

“The top leagues are highly competitive but as you look down, the leagues become very social.”

He added that the arena caters for players between the ages of eight and 60, and anybody interested is welcome to come play or even watch.

“Come for fitness, and come for the social aspect. There are nice people, vibey music, sports TVs, a restaurant and bar, and a braai area outside.”

The next set of leagues will run from June until September.

The netball game between MPPM (on the attack in picture) against Da Divas is an exciting one.
