Whiteley to captain the Springboks
JOBURG – 'Oh captain my captain' Whiteley goes from Lions to the Springboks.

Lions captain Warren Whiteley has been named captain of the Springboks for the three Tests against France in June.
The number eight’s rise to the helm of the Springboks has been long overdue for some, as Pirates Rugby Club chairperson Brad Guymer told Caxton Local Media, “Warren Whiteley played four games for Pirates in 2010 and when he has spoken at the club at some lunches he has been a real gentleman. He is absolutely the right man for the [captain’s] job, he made the Lions one of the top franchises, not just in South Africa but also Super Rugby.”
Johannesburg Police Rugby Club (Bobbies) chairperson James du Toit also congratulated Whiteley and wished him the best for a “tough job ahead”.
Fans and fellow players have taken to social media to express their thoughts.

Deserved salutations to Warren Whiteley on becoming 57th Springbok captain. Mature, dignified, thoughtful, clever. Another Morné or Bedford

First reaction … very pleased for Warren Whiteley, a natural captain. 2nd reaction … some iffy players still in Bok frame.
