National Hole In My Bucket Day

Enjoy #NationalHoleInMyBucketDay today

30 May is annually observed as National Hole In My Bucket Day. This wacky holiday honours the fun children’s song, There’s a Hole in My Bucket.

The song has its origins in the Germany of the 1700s, and is about a back and forth conversation between Henry and Liza. Henry needs to fix his leaking bucket and asks Liza for advice, “There’s a hole in the bucket, dear Liza, dear Liza.” She answers, “Then fix it, dear Henry, dear Henry, dear Henry.”

The song continues in this way, with each stanza consisting of Henry asking Liza what to do about his leaky bucket. The song ends with Henry needing a bucket to carry water to repair his leaky one.
