Former Moroka Swallows Captain gives back

"Children need to have role models who are passionately pursuing their dreams".

Tshepo Moloto, former Swallows Captain, is reaching his goals by giving back to the youth at Charterhouse School.

In his school years, Tshepo was a star sportsman, and still holds the record for his primary school athletics’ 180m and 150m as well as his high school’s 100m and 200m. At just 16, he signed his first professional soccer contract and went on to play in two major leagues – the PSL and Second Division African Football League.

He comes from a family of talented sportsmen with his father playing for what was known as the Alexandra 11 team and his uncle playing for and coaching Kaizer Chiefs. Tshepo is a powerful example of what hard work, dedication and skills can do for achieving one’s goals. Inspired by his mother, Esther Moloto, Principal of Nkholi Primary School, Tshepo decided to get involved in the education and development of children. “It has always been a lifelong goal to give back,” he said.

In January this year, Tshepo joined the school’s sports department and has made a phenomenal difference in the sports that is offered by the school. With his help, the school established a record by ranking fifth out of 18 schools in the Discovery Soccer Tournament.

Not only is Tshepo making a significant difference to the scoreboard but to the children as well. Natalie Thwaits, Principal of Charterhouse Preparatory School, said that the way the children look up to and respect Tshepo is an amazing sight. She went on to say, “Children need to have role models who are passionately pursuing their dreams”. His love for sports development grows through the eagerness of the children to excel at what they are doing and their desire to represent their school. He also said that he is encouraged by the children’s aspirations to become professionals.

The students and parent body are fortunate to have Tshepo on board. His vision for sports is not just about athletic ability, but excellence on the foundation of confidence and friendship.
