Community members had the chance to attend a public feedback meeting hosted by the Democratic Alliance (DA) in Roodepoort at the Civic Centre in Roodepoort recently.
The meeting was open to all community members, and was aimed at providing feedback on the progress that has been made in the City of Johannesburg since the municipal elections in 2016.
According to the councillor for Ward 84, Gert Niemand, community members were very eager to hear what the Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Public Safety, councillor Michael Sun, and the Member of Parliament, Honourable John Steenhuisen had to say.
The MMC talked about the progress that has been made, but he was also brutally honest about the challenges being experienced. “Our Department is facing many challenges, especially concerning the Emergency Management Services and the availability of fire engines. But, I assure you that these maters are receiving my highest attention,” the MMC said.
Thereafter, the audience had the opportunity to listen to John Steenhuisen, who is the DA’s Chief Whip in Parliament. He gave some feedback regarding the current workings of parliament as well as the overall political landscape in South Africa.
“After his presentation, community members were given the opportunity to engage with both speakers. I am glad to report that the meeting was well attended,” Gert concluded.
