Mrs SA finalist impacts learners ahead of pageant
500 children filled the school hall for a fun educational talk and presentation from recycling giants Mpact and Mrs South Africa Tammy Taylor Nails finalist, Lerato Moyo.
In a bid to reduce pollution and prevent paper from ending up on congested landfill sites, the learners at Kings School West Rand were encouraged to play a part in saving the environment.
On 6 November, 500 little ones filled up the school hall for a fun educational talk and presentation from recycling giants Mpact and Mrs South Africa Tammy Taylor Nails finalist, Lerato Moyo.
The children took on the mission of bringing about change to the environment by bringing unused paper to school for the Ronnie Recycler programme, which is a Mpact recycling project.
The programme allows schools and communities to raise funds while teaching environmental awareness, responsibility and sustainability, as the schools and communities get paid for their recyclables.
“I think it is very important for children to learn about recycling at a young age because this is how we take care of the environment and the world that we live in,” said Lerato during the special and cherished visit at the school.
Moyo added that she is no stranger to recycling as this is included in her housekeeping duties. She also mentioned that she chose to impact King School West Rand because the institution is very close to her heart.

“My whole family knows that we partake in recycling projects at home, and I chose the school because my daughter and niece are learners there,” the mother of four explained.
During the presentation, Yasmeen Adam, the procurement representative from Mpact Recycling, discussed the types of paper that can be collected for recycling purposes. The listed included office and shredded paper, envelopes, newspapers, magazines and brochures, cardboard boxes of any kind, roll cores, old telephone directories and cartons.
Yasmeen called a number of learners on stage to separate a variety of recycling materials according to their categories. This was to test if the learners understood the type of paper needed for the project – and the learners did not disappoint.
The children also received mini Ronnie bags to take home and start collecting paper following a dance performance by Ronnie the mascot.
As the Mrs SA pageant fast approaches, Lerato encouraged members of the community to keep voting for her. The crowning of Mrs SA will take place at Emperors Palace on 17 November and will be aired on 19 November on SABC 3.
