Local charity wants to help other organisations

‘We want to help other charity organisations’

Batho Pele Charity Tree is a local Non-profit Organisation (NPO) that wants to make a difference in the community.

“Our organisation was established with the purpose of serving, improving and equipping under-privileged communities, as well as NPOs with the necessary support and resources to combat poverty, unemployment, abuse and much more,” said Tumi Kotola, chairperson of the charity.

He added that the NPO was established in an attempt to create a network that offered skills transfers as well as socio-economic sustainability to under-privileged and rural NPOs. “Our main objectives are capacity building, skills transfers, marketing, and fundraising for the under-privileged NPOs and social development organisations.

There are many organisations, such as shelters, schools, gender support groups and sport and recreational clubs involved in community upliftment initiatives that do not have adequate resources and manpower to access the available funds and employment/ learnership opportunities offered by the corporate sector, government and other funders,” Tumi said.

In an attempt to offer support to these organisations, Batho Pele Charity Tree wants to adopt various programmes and organisations such as soup kitchens, children’s shelters, collect-a-blanket, support groups, skills development centres, students, schools and many more charitable organisations, to connect them with possible funders as well as distributing resources, to create socio-economic sustainability.

“We call on any under-privileged charity and community organisation within the City of Johannesburg to contact us in order for us to adopt them, thus ensuring they can benefit from various Corporate Social Investment programmes,” he said.

To qualify, organisations are requested to send a formal/ legal letter that explains what their organisation’s objectives and needs are to Batho Pele Tree Charity.

“The letter can be either faxed to 086 451 2680 or emailed to tumikotola@gmail.com. We will contact organisations as soon as all relevant information has been received,” he concluded.
