“Well done to our wrestlers on their achievements at the Africa championships –you made Team Ruiter and Team South Africa proud!” said Dean van Zyl.
Dean is the head coach at Die Ruiter wrestling club, and two of his wrestlers won bronze medals while competing in Nigeria. “We had four wrestlers who qualified for participation, but Nico Fouché and Patricia Theledi could not make it due to work and study responsibilities. Machiel Grobler and Riehan Botha were able to go, and they did very well,” Dean said.

Both wrestlers competed in the Greco-Roman division. Machiel competed in the 77kg Junior division and Riehan in the 45kg Cadet division. Both won bronze medals in their respective divisions. Dean said, “Both wrestlers are now anxiously waiting to hear if they were selected for the World Championships Team.”
The wrestlers train on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 6pm to 8.30pm at Hoërskool Bastion. For more information, contact Dean on 083 644 2670 or Sylvia on 078 900 4217.
