National Sticky Bun Day

Enjoy this sticky sweet treat on #NationalStickyBunDay

21 February is National Sticky Bun Day, which is observed annually.

Sticky buns consist of rolled pieces of leavened dough that often contain brown sugar and sometimes cinnamon. Before the dough is placed in the pan, it is lined with sticky sweet ingredients such as maple syrup, honey, nuts, sugar and butter. When the buns are finished baking, they are then flipped upside down so that the sticky bottom becomes the topping.

Sticky buns are often served for breakfast or as a dessert and were originally known as schnecken. It is believed that this delicious treat’s origin is in the 18th century, when the German settlers brought a baking tradition with them as they began settling near Pennsylvania.

The sticky bun’s most famous cousins are the cinnamon roll, the caramel roll and monkey bread.

To celebrate today is easy, just enjoy a sticky bun – or two. You can try making your own delicious sticky delight or invite your friends and family to accompany you to one of your favourite bakeries and buy a few to enjoy with some tea or coffee.
