I received my Joburg municipal bill yesterday, and reviewed the breakdown of charges. This is not something I normally do, as like most people, I live a very busy life. However, we are compelled to pay the bill for fear of the cut-off process and what that involves.
I’m no accountant, but I noticed the VAT charges on each of the services (to change to 15 per cent soon) such as refuse and water. These services have a 14 per cent VAT add on. My concern is that the total bill then has an additional VAT charge of 14 per cent.
This surely cannot be right, as it seems like an additional charge. And if you are unfortunate to have had a balance outstanding, the additional VAT is charged on that as well.
