Trolley race pushes pushers to the limit for charity
The eighth annual Roodepoort Round Table 162i Trolley Race took place at Clearwater Mall on Saturday, 3 March.

An event that was initially held in winter time, the trolley race has become an event that is highly anticipated and is thoroughly enjoyed by all who take part.
Some of the participating teams were there to defend their titles, while others were simply there to have fun and to contribute to a good cause.

That is exactly what they achieved, with all funds raised on the day being shared between the Matla A Bana and The Gateway Village Society charities.
The day started off early, with the teams already registering and beginning to decorate their trolleys at 6.30am.

Some of the teams really went all out when it came to decorating their trolleys, with BCI Security decorating theirs to resemble one of their vehicles and the Honeydew Police decorating theirs to resemble a police helicopter.
However, the winner of the best-decorated trolley was Curro Krugersdorp, which had the ‘Baby Trolley’ decorated with all sorts of toys and blankets to resemble a cot.

There were also other schools at the event, with Curro Aurora and Maragon Ruimsig (who had two teams) also taking part.
The race was won in the end by the team from the Honeydew Police, who, despite having one less ‘pusher’ than everyone else, managed to clock an impressive time of 6min 24sec over the 2km course.
KTM finished second, with Rahn Consolidated closing out the podium spots.
Game Clearwater Mall was awarded the prize for the best team spirit for their spirited chanting of ‘Beat that Price’.
All in all, it was a wonderful event thoroughly enjoyed by all, with an estimated R10 000 raised for the two charities.
