The Johannesburg WA Mozart Choir (WAM) will be performing Gilbert and Sullivan’s Mikado at the Roodepoort Theatre.
The show is directed by WAM musical director Carel-Johan de Graaff with set and costume designs from the award-winning Standard Bank Young Artist of the Year for Theatre 2016, Jade Bowers. The production will feature Donae Brazer with Neil Stander as Yum-Yum and Nanki-Poo. Dirk Venter will be joining the production in the title role, with Charles Grant as Ko-Ko. The WAM orchestra will also be performing and all supporting roles will be performed by members of WAM.
Karin Spottiswoode, a WAM committee member, said, “All the choir members are putting in a lot of hard work, to ensure the performance of this thoroughly enjoyable, rather complicated love story set in the imaginary town of Titipu in Japan. The music is lovely and many of the songs are well known.”
Audience members are promised a fun-filled evening of glorious musical entertainment.
Tickets cost R200 per person and shows will run at 7.30pm on Friday 6 and Saturday 7 July, as well as at 3pm on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 July.
