Three suspects arrested after shootout could be related to Audi gang

False registration plates found.

The three suspects arrested in Pretoria on 22 May after a shootout might be connected to the Audi gang that has terrorised Roodepoort and surroundings since 2015.

The arrests were made by EMPD, the Police’s K9 unit, its Equestrian unit, Special Weapons Assault Team and Tracker members after reports came through that a Ford Ranger that was stolen in Pretoria was heading towards Ekurhuleni. The Ford Ranger was dropped at Saint George’s Hotel and the suspects fled in a white Audi. The Audi was spotted and a chase ensued, ending in a shootout on Rigel Avenue.

The three suspects were arrested. On investigation, the Audi was found to have been fitted with false registration plates. It was also discovered that the vehicle had been hijacked in Sunnyside in February. Further investigation lead to the discovery of 10 sets of number plates and computer boxes with keys to override fitted ones in VW Polos, Ford Rangers and Toyota Hiluxes.

According to the police, the three suspects could be connected to crimes that have been committed all over Gauteng.
