Ed Baker, a Witpoortjie resident, recently delivered some much needed items to the Roodepoort/ Krugersdorp SPCA, when he donated a bag of dog food and blankets to the organisation.
He said, “There is a great need at this organisation, and it is very costly for them to continue caring for these animals. I just thought I would like to do something that could make a difference.”
He added that pet owners these days do not look after their animals, and that there are far more cases of animal neglect and abuse than before. “Everybody wants a pet, but they do not want to accept the responsibility that accompanies this desire. They love their little pup or kitten, but, as soon as it grows up, they do not want it anymore,” he said.
Donations can be dropped off at the SPCA, situated at 3 Nadine Street, Florida. Alternatively, they can be dropped off at the Record’s offices, on the corner of General Pienaar Avenue and Ham Street, Witpoortjie.
