Police make 75 arrests in one week

Suspects arrested on various charges

The Roodepoort Police made 75 arrests in one week while performing their normal duties, special duties and stop-and-search operations in and around the Roodepoort precinct.

From 25 to 28 June, 48 suspects aged between 19 and 56 were arrested for various cases, including assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, common assault (domestic violence), shoplifting, malicious injury to property, possession of drugs, murder, possession of dagga, suspected possession of drugs, fraud, dealing in dagga, car hijacking and possession of live ammunition, sexual assault, robbery, rape, contempt of court and theft.

From 29 June to 1 July, a further 27 suspects aged between 21 and 59 were arrested for various cases, including assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, drunken driving, domestic violence, shoplifting, possession of drugs, theft, contravening the Liquor Act and driving under the influence.

The suspects were charged and detained at the Roodepoort Police Station. They will appear in the Roodepoort Magistrates Court soon.
