Schools are closed and it’s holiday time for children. You may want to take a road trip with them, but you are not sure how to keep them busy while travelling.
Here are some fun tips from the guardian.com when driving long distances with children.
– Leave early, go slow. This will give you time to stop regularly at parks or playgrounds.
– In-transit activities. Armed with colouring and reading books and paper, and with no mobile internet, the children will start entertaining themselves. Sing silly songs, tell stories, and sometimes they will sleep.
– Food, the great distractor. Children love food and it keeps them busy.
– There is nothing that can capture a child’s mind like a promise. Promise them that if they behave they will get something they like in return.
– Don’t mention the toilet. Once you have mentioned it, they will want to do a five-minutes stop to the toilet every now and then.
– Set Holy Grail destinations. Create a wonderful picture in their minds of how much fun they are going to have at the destination.
– Lastly, disconnect to truly connect; no TV, internet, tablets or phones. This is the only quality time you have with them before you go back to work and they go back to school.
