Join the Cansa Relay for Life

The event will take place at Hoërskool Bastion

The annual Cansa Relay for Life will once again be taking place at Hoërskool Bastion.

Cansa Relay for Life is a fun, overnight team event which is volunteer-driven and community-owned. “The event will start at 6pm on 12 October and end at 6am on 13 October, and will offer everyone in the community, both young and old, an opportunity to participate in the fight against cancer, as well as to honour our cancer survivors,” said Tarryn Human, a staff partner at Cansa.

She added that the teams are made up of between 10 and 15 members, who camp out around the track overnight, where they enjoy entertainment and camaraderie in a festival-like atmosphere. “We encourage teams to raise money in the region where the relay is being held, to support the fight against cancer,” said Tarryn.

The Relay will be opened with a Survivor’s Lap to honour cancer survivors and their care-givers. After sunset, everyone will participate in a Luminaria Ceremony, where candles will be lit in luminaria bags encircling the track. Tarryn explained, “These bags are dedicated to those who have lost their battle, to those who are still fighting as well as to those who have won their struggle against cancer”.

To participate in this event will cost R100 per adult, and R50 for children between the ages of 12 and 18. There is no fee for children under the age of 12.

For more information, contact Tarryn on 011 768 4342 or 083 336 5265, or send an email to thuman@cansa.org.za.
