Success is what you get when you cross moms and fitness

Moms Chanél Vorster (38), Tracey Herholdt (43), and Renche Weideman (40) became the first representatives of Crossfit M4M to win a division at The Battle.

The Battle is a three-day CrossFit event which aims to showcase the best CrossFit talent South Africa has to offer. It started in 2014, when BST CrossFit and M4M CrossFit joined forces to put together a fun competition that allows individuals at all levels of fitness to take part.

It consists of 10 divisions, which are all divided into men’s and women’s categories. One of these categories, is the Moms’ Team division, which is what our three supermoms took part in.

Chanél, Tracey, and Renche have all been doing CrossFit for more than four years individually, but only began training together two years ago. Considering the fact that they all train at CrossFit M4M in Poortview, it was only a matter of time before they teamed up, and The Battle 2018 was the first competition in which they competed as a team.

In preparation for a tough competition, the trio spent the eight to 10 weeks leading up to the competition training six days a week. By the time the competition came round on 17 August, the ladies, representing CrossFit M4M, had set their sights on a minimum podium finish, which would be a first for Crossfit M4M.

The moms gave their all over the next three days, carrying out several exercises in and around Silverstar Casino’s The Dome, with everyone’s families out in support. Their hard work had paid off by Sunday, 19 August, when they were crowned as the winners of the Moms Team division.

The moms’ victory was not only the first win at The Battle for CrossFit M4M, but also their first-ever podium finish.
