The Discovery Community Forum (DCF) will be hosting its annual Trick or Treat Party on 27 October.
The party will be held at the Scout Hall on the corner of Bird Street and Barkley Avenue, Discovery. The fun starts at 6.30pm and children of all ages are welcome to join. However, participants are advised to arrive a bit earlier to have their faces painted before starting the exciting journey of gathering enough sugary treats to keep them up all night!
Last year’s party saw almost 300 community members of all ages participating, and Marion Kelley, the DCF’s public relations officer said, “This evening is all about good, clean family fun, and who does not love to get loads of sweets? The aim of our trick or treat party is to afford our children the opportunity to roam the streets in a safe and controlled environment, and just enjoy themselves. They will stop only at selected houses. We are taking the streets back for our community, and with so many negative things happening around us, it is good to be able to remind people of the positive things as well, even if it is just for one night.”
Everyone participating should wear comfortable shoes and bring a goodie bag to store their sweet treasures. “Although this event will always be free, we ask for a lollipop, or a bag of lollipops as entrance fee, which we give to Averille, who then distributes them among underprivileged children. We use this to teach the children that because they will be receiving loads of candy, they should share some too,” said Marion.
