Four SA champions for Ruiter Wrestling Club
Wrestlers managed to bag eight medals

Nine wrestlers from the Ruiter Wrestling Club competed in the recent South African Youth Wrestling Championships.
The tournament was held in Cape Town, and the wrestlers had to show their mettle against some stiff competition.

But they stuck to what they had practised, and managed to bag eight medals – four gold, three silver and one bronze. The club’s head coach, Dean van Zyl, said that he was proud of all the wrestlers, especially the four South African champions.
The wrestlers who won medals are:
• Patricia Theledi (Gold)
• Duné de Magalhaes (Gold)
• Zander Vorster (Gold)
• Jessica Eagar (Gold)
• Julian Engelbrecht (Two silver)
• Bertie Venter (Silver)
• Domonic Haasbroek (Bronze)
One of the club’s newest SA Champions is is Duné de Magalhaes, who said, “I enjoyed my first SA Championship experience, but I was extremely nervous before my final. But, luckily for me, the coach, who is also my dad, was there to calm me down and tell me to only give my best and enjoy it, which helped me a lot.”
Dean, who is also the Central Gauteng head coach, said that all the wrestlers did their club, and province, proud and that their hard work, perseverance and determination throughout the year was rewarded.
He concluded by saying, “Even though we did very well at the championships, the wrestlers cannot relax yet, as they need to prepare for the upcoming National Trials, where the senior, junior and cadet wrestlers will have to fight for a place in next year’s National teams.”
Ruiter Wrestling Club trains every Tuesday and Thursday from 6pm to 8.30pm. For more information, contact Dean on 083 644 2670.
