Robbers pour paraffin over man and threaten to set him alight

The robbers took R7 000, cigarettes and airtime vouchers.

At about 1am yesterday morning, 1 November, a business in the Princess informal settlement fell prey to an armed robbery, during which the owner was threatened that he was going to be set on fire.

The owner of the business in Van de Linde Street was woken by a gunshot. Three men, two armed, then entered the shop through the roof . They poured paraffin over him and threatened to set him alight if he did not give them the cash in the shop. He showed them where it was and they took R7 000, cigarettes and airtime vouchers.

Upon fleeing, the balaclava-clad robbers fired two more shots. The damage to the property and the value of stolen items amounted to about R15 000.
