Little Falls’ Nomi earns a Top 5 spot at 2018 Mrs SA pageant

Nomi's journey concluded with a Top 5 finish, marking the end of a stellar Mrs SA campaign this year.

After an intense eight-month journey, Nombina Habangana’s Mrs South Africa road came to an end on Friday, 9 November when she finished inside the competition’s Top 5.

Nomi’s journey began as a Top 100 semi-finalist as far back as 2 March when she was invited, along with the other participants from all over South Africa, to the first-ever National Casting and Empowerment Workshop held at Emperors Palace, to help the ladies prepare for the journey ahead. When 29 June came around, it was time for Nomi and the other ladies to find out if they would make the cut and form part of the competition’s prestigious Top 25 finalists.

Nomi was fortunate enough to make that cut, four months after being named a semi-finalist, and so began a journey that would see Nomi carry out numerous charity events and initiatives over the course of the next four-and-a-half-months. Her charity drives and events benefited many an organisation, including the competition’s chosen charity, Women4Women, and St Michael and All Angels’ Anglican Church in Weltevreden Park.

Speaking during her recycling drive at St Michael’s, Nomi reflected on just how valuable the Mrs SA competition has been to her. “I’ve been able to meet so many wonderful people through the competition,” she said. “I’ve learnt so much from the wonderful women I’ve worked with and competed against.”

After a highly successful campaign right throughout the year, Nomi went into the final evening of the competition with high hopes of being one of the top women on the night. She managed to do just that thanks to her strong stage presence and those who stood behind her, supporting her all the way.

First came the Top 10 finalists, which in itself was a huge achievement. Then came time for Nomi to be named inside the Top 5, putting her among the competition’s elite this year. Unfortunately she wasn’t named as Mrs South Africa or one of the runner-up princesses, but Nomi undoubtedly made herself, her family, and those who supported her all the way very proud.
