The residents of the Have a Heart Care Centre in Roodepoort might soon not have a place to stay.
Marius Oelofse, the founder of the Centre, explained, “We have a huge outstanding water bill, which has resulted in our elderly residents not having access to water. In order for us to start a new account at the City of Johannesburg (CoJ), we will need to pay R50 000.”
He added that the outstanding account amounts to R465 000, but, because this amount cannot be paid by the owner of the building, they will be needing new premises, to ensure that their approximately 20 residents will not be left out on the street.
“We will need the new premises from 1 February next year, and it has to have room to accommodate at least 20 people. If we cannot find another premises, we would have to close the centre entirely, and we would not want to do that as most of our residents do not have any other place to go,” said Marius.
He is appealing to the community to find it in their hearts to help them find a new home and said, “This will be the only way we will be able to continue caring for the less fortunate elderly in our care. Should you be able to help, please contact me on 082 952 7151 or Bongi on 082 264 7957.”
