The SAB Regional Men’s League saw four teams battling it out at the Davidsonville Soccer Stadium recently, keeping the fans on the edge of their seats.
The first match was between JHB Pull Together FC and KDC FC from Soweto, and although both teams played very hard, the encounter resulted in a two all draw.

The second match saw Roodepoort United FC hosting the team from Phiri Movers FC, and the encounter was fierce and fast-paced, with end-to-end action.
Roodepoort was the first team to strike, when they scored in the fifth minute of the game, with a goal from Menziwa ‘Aguero’ Ntshangase’s boot. A mere fifteen minutes later, the visitors had an opportunity to draw level through a penalty, but the pressure proved to be a bit much, and they failed to capitalise. Only a few minutes after this failed attempt, the opponents took advantage of a defensive error from Roodepoort, and the scores were level.

Just before the half-time whistle, the players’ emotions almost got the better of them after a deliberate hand-ball by one of the opposing team’s players, but the referee quickly brought it under control, and the offender was sent off with a red card.
Roodepoort managed to convert the penalty to go into half-time with a 2–1 lead. The second half saw more of the same from both teams, but Roodepoort was the stronger team, with Menziwa scoring his second goal of the game, stretching the lead to 3–1. With 20 minutes left, the playing field was levelled again, when a Roodepoort player was sent off with a red card, but they held on, and they managed to win the game, and bag all three league points.

Mahlatsi Molemela, Roodepoort’s coach, said, “Score lines aside, it was by far the toughest game we’ve played thus far. We are just grateful that we were able to get maximum points in front of our home supporters. The boys put up a brave fight and they played for the badge. I can’t express enough how proud I am of every single one of them. Now it’s just a matter of focusing on the next game.”
