I walk my dogs at least twice a week and always the same route, as I did yesterday afternoon. I walked with my two dogs, from Pafuri Road, where I live, to Wilde Amandel Road. As I was walking past one particular house, I noticed the gate was open.
I haven’t seen it open before, but knowing there are dogs on the property, I walked as far away from the open gate as possible. I was almost past the gate when three dogs from that house ran to us. One dog is a pit bull. They attacked my dogs and bumped me over on to the road.
I managed to scare the dogs away and activated my panic button for assistance. One of the neighbours came over to see if I needed help. I am so grateful to him. When Apcan arrived, I showed them the open gate. They parked at that house and the gate was suddenly closed!
I went to the gate wanting to report the incident to the dog owners. A man came walking from the front door to the gate, looking very irritated. I told him what had happened. His reply simply was “So what” and he walked back to the house.
In total disbelief, I tried to report this to the police, but was told that I can only open a case if I was bitten by the dogs and this needed to be confirmed by a doctor.
I can’t believe we have neighbours like this in our community. I want to bring this to everyone’s attention – be careful when walking your dogs in Wilro Park.
