A night out at a tavern in Rietfontein turned gruesome after a man was stabbed and one of his attackers died as a result of a mob attack.

Muldersdrift Police Station commander Lieutenant Colonel Mankontsho Setlhare has warned the community of Muldersdrift to refrain from taking the law into their own hands.
This follows an intense murder and mob attack investigation by the police after an incident which left two people dead on Friday night, 16 November.
A night out at a tavern in Rietfontein turned gruesome after a man was stabbed and one of the men involved killed in a mob attack.
The police spokesperson, Slindile Ntuli, detailed the incident. “It is alleged that on Friday at approximately 8pm the victim aged 35 was at the tavern in Rietfontein when he engaged in a fight with two males.
“One of the males held the victim and the other male stabbed the victim to death,” she said.
She added, “The community members chased the two suspects and managed to catch one and assaulted him. The [assaulted] suspect aged 22 was arrested and is in hospital under police guard”.
“It is believed that the community members gathered information on the whereabouts of the second suspect and hunted him down. It is suspected that he was assaulted by a mob before burning him alive,” Ntuli painted the incident.
She further explained that the suspect was taken to a hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
“Anyone with information that can assist or help in the investigation can anonymously call Muldersdtift SAPS on 011 952 4600 or alternatively crime stop on 08600 10111,” Ntuli urged.
